So this is the email that I get from my mom today:
I have to tell you what happened this weekend. I was driving on Sunday morning- about 7:15, and came to the end of this street- and there was a car sitting there- thought he was waiting on traffic to pull out- I watched and waited, and waited more. About 4 minutes, then I backed up and pulled along side the truck. The window was down, and this guy was sitting in it slumped over, I rolled down my window and asked if he was alright- no answer, I waited, honked the horn- and he stirred, I asked again if he was alright- and he looked at me and said he was just tired, I said ok, he put his head down again- and was asleep that quick. I waited a few seconds- and yelled again to see if he wanted me to get help for him- he said no- that he was just tired. So then I started getting this weird feeling- and thought I better just leave. I pulled out- and looked in my mirror to see him head the other direction- toward town.
Here is the article from the Elkhart Truth in yesterday’s paper.
Elkhart: Man found asleep behind wheel arrested
ELKHART -- A man found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle 7:30 Sunday morning was arrested on drug and weapon charges, according to police.
Elkhart Cpl. Michael Windmiller reported he received a report of someone who fell asleep in the drive-through lane of a fast-food business off South Main Street.
Windmiller found George A. Harting behind the wheel with a handgun next to him on the front seat, according to the report.
"Since the truck was turned off and the vehicle was in park, I was unable to charge him with operating while intoxicated and driving while HTV (habitual traffic violator)," Windmiller reported.
Harting, 44, of 244 Kenyon Ave., was arrested on lic intoxication charge before a search revealed he was carrying methamphetamine, Windmiller reported. It was also found he didn't have a permit for the handgun, leading to another misdemeanor charge, according to the report.
